When the ork jets got released I wasn't a huge fan of them, they just weren't "Orky" enough for my liking. But I knew I needed a flyer in my army (because doesn't everybody?) so when the Stormtalon was released it was just begging to be looted. I added bits as I went along with this, mainly plasticard but some also stuff from the bits box. I also made it east to disassemble/re-assemble for transporting and so the bombs could be removed when used.
Here's a shot of the separate components:
And here it is all together, the bombs are magnetised and you can probably guess where it got it's name from now:
Because this was my 1st flyer I wanted it to be special & I wanted to try out a lot of new techniques I hadn't tried before: magnets, battle damage, weathering, dabz, bullet holes. I wanted it to be really beat up but still intimidating. The 1st thing it needed was rivets:
These took hours and if you've ever done this before, you'll know what a pain in the arse it is. It involved a lot of patience, trial & error, and a couple of youtube tutorials. Once I had all the rivets on I painted the whole thing. This was my 1st real attempt at some weathering and it was just painted on.
It still looked too neat to me so I did the only sane thing and chipped away at it with a knife to make the weathering more realistic:
Then I added some bullet holes for good measure:
I got out the sponge to practice dirtying it up using a dark brown and also started painted the jaw:
And here it is fully finished (for now)
My mate Mark was kind enough to bring out his stormtalon in battle against me so I grabbed the opportunity to take a few comparison shots:
So that's it for this week. I hope this gave you more of an insight into how I work on a project. Although it's not gorkamorka it's still keeping it green. The campaign starts on the 8th April so I should start having battle reports then and shots of some of the other warbands. Hope you enjoyed this
Chris
